NEW YORK, Oct. 12 — In a landmark move, a diverse coalition of 120+ environmental organizations, 35 national governments, and youth-led movements including Fridays for Future has launched the "No, No, No" campaign, a global call to reject three critical barriers to climate progress: delayed policy implementation, fossil fuel expansion, and corporate greenwashing.

Campaign Pillars: Three "No"s to Drive Change

  1. No to Delayed Climate Policies: The coalition demands immediate enforcement of 2015 Paris Agreement targets, including a 43% reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 (compared to 2019 levels) and net-zero emissions by 2050. Over 70% of participating nations have pledged to update their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) by November 2024 to align with these goals.
  2. No to Fossil Fuel Expansion: Campaigners are calling for a global moratorium on new coal, oil, and gas projects, with a focus on phasing out existing fossil fuel subsidies (estimated at $7 trillion annually by the International Monetary Fund). Youth activists have organized 2,000+ protests in 80 countries to demand an end to exploration permits and pipeline approvals.
  3. No to Corporate Greenwashing: The coalition is pushing for stricter regulatory frameworks to penalize companies that mislead consumers about their environmental practices. A new global database will track corporate emissions and false sustainability claims, with penalties including fines up to 10% of annual revenue.

Youth Leadership at the Forefront

Greta Thunberg, founder of Fridays for Future, emphasized the urgency in a press conference: "This is not a choice — it’s a survival mandate. The science is clear: every year of delay costs lives. Our generation will not accept ‘maybe’ or ‘later’ — we demand ‘no’ to inaction, and ‘yes’ to a livable future."

Global Support and Next Steps

U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres praised the campaign as "a critical turning point" and announced a special summit in December 2024 to bring together world leaders and campaign organizers. The coalition plans to release a "Climate Action Scorecard" in January 2025, ranking nations and corporations on their compliance with the three "No" pillars.
